Yeah, I'm interested... ![]()
I really want to take this camera underwater. I can't realistically see it happening in the near future though. Anyone know about an affordable housing for this one?
The E-TTL2 is compatible with Canon speedlites. I wonder how it will work with the Aquatica and proposed Ikelite eTTL systems.
1.3 FOV would work well underwater with the 16-35L and 17-40L.
Fast AF combined with the above lenses should make portraits of moving fish easier (works on a good day with the 10D which has far crappier AF).
I'd like more megapixels, but overall this is a more attractive camera for the dollars than the 1Ds.
I've got a MkII on order, which at this rate seems I'll get it in about oh, 6 months.
It remains to be seen if I'll house it or not, right now I'm leaning towards not housing it for quite some time as the costs are prohibitive given the amount that I can actually use it UW.
There are currently no affordable housings for this one. Seacam has a housing, Subal is supposedly coming out with a 1Ds housing which might do it, and UK Germany has a 1D housing as well. All of these housing start around $4000 without ports.
Since eTTL2 is compatible with the eTTL Speedlites, I'd say that the signal the camera sens out to the flash is still the same. I think the major difference is in the algorithm the camera uses to determine flash duration / output, which with eTTL 2 can include distance information if supplied by the lens. This could actually pose a problem for use behind a dome or UW in general as the distance info might be off.
Yes, the wider FOV and better AF would be welcome. I don't personally have any need for more MPs than what it's got, I just don't print that large. The 1Ds would be great, being FF and more resolution, but it's still too expensive, and I would actually like a better buffer like what the MkII has, so the MkII is the best all around camera for my needs.
