  1. correct Ike port for canon 50mm macro?

    Hello again Ike and wetpixies!

Another question from your confused port shopper

I would like to order an Ike port for the Canon 50mm f 2.5 compact macro but I am not quite getting it.. .

I would like to get the FLAT port to get more magnification.

On Ikes site http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/2port_canon.html I see that the recommended flat port is #5505.

    On Ike's page http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/slrport.html I read that

    #5505...... Lens length less than 4.5" (11.4cm).

According to Canons lens chart the length of the Canon 55mm macros is 2.5".

Shouldn't a "shorther" port like the 5502 or 5502.41 be better?

    According to Ike's site http://www.ikelite.com/web_pages/slrport.html:

    #5502...... Lens length less than 3.5" (8.9cm)

    #5502.41 Lens length less than 4.1" (10.4cm)

I am probably missing something, but would like to make sure I know what port to order so I don't make a mistake.

I am not planning to stack on any extenders, diopters or filters.

Anyone has this lens and what port are you using?

Help and advise would be much appreciated!

  2. I note Jaytreat is using the 5505 flat port with this lens - check out his review of the DRebel (there's a link in the 'question for canon dslr' thread).

  3. Hi Marjo. Whitey is right, I'm using the 5505. It is what Ike's site recommends and it is what works.

Turns out that this lens is 2.5" out of the box but about 3.5" when...uh...fully aroused. Appears that the folks at Canon just don't kow how to measure their own lenses

Click here for a bunch of samples from this lens/port combination.

  4. Thanks Jaytreat!

Uhum...I did think the measurement was usually given for the full length...

I'm really grateful for the advice, I might have done the wrong thing without your help. I just put in the order for lens and port, hopefully it will be underwater this weekend!
