  1. Ikelite DS-50 Strobe noise

I just received my new Ikelite DS-50. When I turn it on it makes a high pitch noise that doesn't go away. Is this normal?

  2. it sounds like you are talking about the noise that any strobe or flash makes when it is charging ... it normally gets quieter when it gets charged ... and then when you fire it starts up loud again, does the strobe fire ok ? and does it vary in loudness as the charge builds up ?

I dont know that particular strobe, but it sounds normal to me.

Sounds like you have bad/dead batterys.

  4. It's not normal. The sound you describe should last for less than a minute as the strobe builds up it's charge.

As mentioned above a dead or very weak battery might cause this to continue as there is not enough "juice" to charge the strobe.

I have found the Ike 50 strobes in all their manifestations to be the most reliable strobes available. If this continues send to Ike for a replacement.

  5. I will check Monday and get back to you, but believe we get an occasional nutsy transformer that produces some weird racket............
