Ikelite DS161 strobe with RX100 in Meikon

  1. I have a Ikelite set-up with a DS161 strobe for Canon 5Dmk2. Last August, I experienced my first flooding, on the first dive of the trip :-)

As a back-up solution, I would like to be able to use the same strobe for a Sony RX100 in a Meikon housing. The Sony has no hot shoe. I've seen that Ike makes an optical slave converter (http://ikelite.com/accessories/4403-optical-slave-converter.html), but this is manual flash only, and I've read that the Rx100 doesn't work well with strobes in manual as there is no manual flash mode.

From reading on this forum, I've seen folks using TTL on the RX100 with Sea & Sea and Inon strobes.

Is there is a TTL solution with the Ike strobe ?

  2. Ikelite strobes have TTL capability only with Ikelite housings or a proprietary converter and only using electronic sync cords. If you are triggering Ikelite strobes optically then you will be using them in manual.

  3. Thank you.

  4. I'm not 100% sure but I think the TTL converter of Heinrichsweikamp should work. I guess the sony RX100 uses a similar simple flash protocol as my sony nex-5. I also have a meike housing and I use an ikelite strobe (51S) with their digital adapter. It works well. However, you will need a special cord with one end nikonos, the other end ikelite. You can find information about the converter here:

    Cheers
