  1. Help: D100 settings for macro question...

    Help!

I'm heading for Kungkungan next month and I haven't shot a lot of macro with my D100 yet (60mm currently, purchasing a 105 as well). What settings do people use?

I have an Inon z220 as well as a housed (subal) Nikon speedflash that let's me do ttl.

I read somewhere folks change the Exposure compensation (to what?). Also, what about the white balance and exposure mode? Suggestions?

Last - if I choose to use the Inon to shoot macro I know I'll be shooting in manual (but this gives me more flexibility about moving the strobe around to get rid of backscatter), what power setting are people using for macro?

    Thanks for the hellp...

I have had success simply shooting with the SB80DX set on dTTL and using an Inon 220Z as a manual slave.

I have used both the 60mm by itself and also with a 2x teleconverter which gives you effectively 3x life size extrapolating to a 36mm by 24mm size.

I set the camera on aperture priority and usually set the aperture to f22.

I set the 220Z to -2 and then look at a couple of shots and adjust it either up or down accordingly. Once it's set I usually don't have to change it again.

I haven't found it necessary to adjust exposure compensation.

If you are using the Subal D10 housing make sure you have the 2 strobe connectors set correctly inside the housing. Search the archives or ping me offline if you're not sure what I'm talking about.
