  1. Fiji Digital Shootout Gallery

Just sorting my images from Fiji. I had the great pleasure of meeting Eric, Rand and James as well as several other Wetpixelites and DD regulars. The trip was a complete reversal of the good Karma I have experienced on previous trips and I was constantly plagued by computer and equipment failures (see my mask below) yet I still managed a few keepers. gallery

  2. I always hate to hear about gear problems

Looks like you didn't let it spoil your trip !

Very nice shots with excellent lighting :D

  3. Thanks for the comments Karl. I learned a couple of valuable lessons on this trip:

Do not leave your laptop plugged in at remote resorts that use there own generators.

If you use a prescription mask, have a backup.

  4. It's a shame when we have to learn by mistakes :D or bad luck :!:

At least by posting this, someone else may be spared the pain.

I recently bought a multi-voltage power strip for overseas travel. Do you think that would make a difference in your case?

Actually, my laptop power adapter was plugged into a power-strip that was in turn plugged into a voltage converter so I thought I was fairly well protected. One of the better surge suppressors would have probably been helpful but how much stuff can you bring.

  6. Hey Larry,

I enjoyed meeting you too. Post that Hawkfish shot!

You might be able to sell that mask to Mel Gibson for his next Mad Max film.

  7. Some kind soul let him use his laptop to prepare his images for the contest - so all was not lost...:-)

Was good to meet you Larry!

    Cheers

  8. 'twas great to meet you, Larry! That mask photo is classic.

Ugh. I didn't know your notebook had been fried! Sorry about that. I think I left mine in on more than one occasion. I must have been lucky. :D We were using a 240V power-strip, however, so maybe that helped. I've always been paranoid about plugging power strips and lots of crap into voltage converters.

I just put up my travel journal here:

It's not as comprehensive as some of the others I've done, and I am not even sure what I wrote in the actual text part of the report, but I'm totally wiped out and am not going to make any changes to it, if I can help it.

I still need to "fix" the Wetpixel coverage and add UW photos from the folk on the trip.

  9. Eric...welcome back....I enjoyed reading your travel journal.....looks like the trip was a real success :D

Your photos are excellent! looks like you got to do a lot of WA...nice lighting

Kimberly and I will be attending your workshop in Houston....we're looking forward to meeting you and James

And a big thank you! If it wasn't for you and Joe W. I'd have been up-the-creek.

Great shots on your journal, Eric. It looks like you guys had better diving at the Bligh Water sites. I was disappointed with the diving at Taveuni.
