Preflash on Nikon CP5000???

3 posts
  1. Does anyone have one yet? I just read this on another list:

The Coolpix 5000 uses pre flash only with externally mounted Nikon compatible

strobes.  The internal strobe for the CP5000 does not have pre flash, which

would mean that a SS200 with a slave sensor would also work great.  However, if

the strobe is connected through a hard-wire connector, the camera detects the

additional strobe and disables the internal strobe.  Then, the external strobe

emits a pre flash.  IMHO a really bad way to do things.  If you want to use

external flash without a pre flash, an adapter must be added to ad a PC type

connection like is on the Wein Safe-sync.  Now, we will not have a pre flash,

but the INTERNAL flash will still flash!!  There is not a way to turn off the

internal flash other than mounting a Nikon compatible TTL type strobe.  I think

Nikon really dropped the ball on this one.

Can anyone confirm this? How would the camera work with a Nikon SB105? Would the 105 emit a preflash???

    Cheers

  2. I was sorting through some old posts and came across this question. I thought that now that we are more familiar with the camera it might be answered. Does the CP5000 really force your strobes to fire a preflash?

  3. No, it doesn't.

The preflash on the CP5000 does absolutely nothing.
