Losing the blues in CMYK...

4 posts
  1. I'm preparing some files for a calendar and just finishing up the CMYK conversions. As in previous years, I find that in converting from the RGB colourspace to CMYK, the rich blue of the sea has a tendency to become somewhat magenta-ish.

Logically, in order to get rid of that hue, I would reduce the magenta or red, but even when I do this, the image just looks kinda "bla". Does anyone have any tips for maintaining the rich blue, they would be willing to share?

    Thanks!

  2. I think there are a couple of ideas. The first is to make sure you flatten before converting, flat images (at least for me) maintain color better. The other approach is to try the "overlay blend" mode in layers. Sometimes this works wonders, others it is a giant fail.

  3. Thanks Bill... The images are flattened so I'll try the other!

I find I have similar problems getting photo prints made... it took me about 4 labs before I could find one that would render the blue-green of our northern lakes... Persistence paid off finally, so hopefully it will here as well!

  4. I print mostly myself so the lab problem isn't a big one, although there are some prints that I simply can't get to look "right"
