  1. Fiji Images - Taveuni, Nananu-i-ra, and Pacific Harbor

    Hi Gang,

I posted a wide variety of photos from the Fiji trip - just got back on Thursday. Dove the first week at the Digital Shootout with everyone and the second week with Eric in the Bligh Water, mostly in the Vatu-i-ra passage. The wrapup was the Bull Shark dive at Pacific Harbor.

Here's the album - lots of images so feel free to use the "slideshow" feature. All shots have been reduced to 400 x 600:

And here are a few assorted favorites - of course it's hard to pick just a few:

All shots were taken with a D100 and LMI Titan housing. Strobes were Inon Z220 for Macro and Ikelite SS200 for WA. Macro is with the 70-180mm lens and wideangle with the 12-24 and also with the 10.5mm fisheye which I borrowed from Gerb, who borrowed it from Ryan...:-)

    Thanks Ryan!

    Cheers

  2. You're getting quite good at the UW photo stuff James :D

  3. James,

Very nice images - I think they're your best so far! I really like the leaf scorpion fish. I spent a week on Taveuni a few years ago prior to going on the Aggressor. I don't think I've come across more welcoming people. I actually started to like kava!!!

    Abandoned the S2? I'm hurt!

    :D John

  4. NIce shots James. Good lighting on the WA shots.

  5. What happened to the S2?

  6. Muy Bueno James :D

Very nice work....looks like a great trip

    Karl

  7. Thanks guys! The S2 is fine, but I had a wiring problem with my bulkhead(s) and couldn't use strobes w/ the S2. So I went to my alternate, a Titan D100 on loan from Light and Motion.

Herb: The master of WA lighting was Eric. He kicked my butt and he was using 2x Z220's vs my dual SS200's. Heck, I even used three strobes on one occasion, the 2 Ikes and one Z220 on the hotshoe.

You can see the 3-strobe setup in this pic on Eric's website:

  8. Great collection there James, especially the wide angle shots!

  9. Good stuff James, looks like you adapted quite well to the D100...

    Tom

  10. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I had used the D100 before on 2 dives and ergonomically it's pretty much the same as the S2pro. There's no TTL, but as you can see, I was shooting mostly wide angle so it didn't matter too much.

    Cheers

    James

  11. Great images, James. I like the second one and bull shark surrounded with fish best.

I now see why eric's shots are so good - he is using the Force to guide him. I'm sure his eyes are closed. Jedi scum!

    Alex

  12. James, I really like the dive boat split level. Pity that the dome wasn't completely dry.

Oooh - and I love this nurse shark:

  13. Leaf Fish

    Hey James,

I dove Somo Somo in the first week of March. I'm almost certain that I shot that exact same leaf fish over 2 months ago! At the top of the White Wall, right?

    Brook

  14. Yep, the top of the white wall. I'm sure he's sick of getting flashed by every diver that goes there...:-) I gave him a break and only took TWO shots of the poor guy. He was down in a depression anyhow, so not in the best position.

Alex: thanks! That was my first "shark dive" and it was pretty challenging.

    Cheers

    James
