  1. 18-70 Nikon lens

    Hi everyone,

This is my first posting on this forum. I am getting the Nikon D-70 with the 18-70mm lens, and ordering the Ikelite housing soon. What are the limitations of this lens UW? Is it a good starter lens?

Someone has posted previously that getting the Ikelite port for this lens may be a waste of money as the prime lenses are better. I have the Nikkor 60mm and 20mm lenses which I used with a Nikon F90X.

Feeling like a novice all over again .

  2. Hello Meng,

A lens "lost" to digital shooters for some time has been the midrange zoom, which is quite useful for fish portraits. Whether or not the lens is something you'll want to shoot is a personal choice, but I wouldn't be negatively influenced if a lens didn't fit someone else's needs.

The lens will replace the 28-85 nikkor, which is very commonly used for fish portraits and low magnfication close ups. It definately won't serve as a replacement for the leneses you are using now, but will fill a nice role between the two.

Your 60 will be quite useful with the d70 for macro work. If you are looking for a wa replacement, your options are:

    Nikkor 12-24 dx

    Nikkor 16mm Fisheye

    Sigma 15mm Diagonal Fisheye

    Nikkor/Sigma 14mm
