Roatan or Utila

Hi,

I am interested in visiting either of these to countries. What is the best time of the year to go? My best time (with work schedule) is the last week in July or early August. The temperature isn't an issue-tho I like it hot, but water visibility and conditions are. For a first trip to the Honduras area any suggestions are great.

I have stayed at Cocoview several times during the same time of year you are going. Water conditions were excellent - warm and clear. We did have a jelly bloom during one trip but it actually made great subject matter to shoot. Cocoview was graciuos enough to take us over to Utila while searching for Whale Sharks. You may be able to arrange a similar trip with them in advance that way you get the best of both worlds.

I just got back from Coco View and Utila. I'd have to say that I got far better photographs at CoCo View (CCV). July is their slow season and that was fantastic....16 of us had the whole resort. Good shore diving, with nice walls and a decent wreck. Utila was not as nice in my opinion, but again, in July there were only 6 of us for the entire week...nice. Decent walls but not very many good corals for photography. One or the other, I'd choose Roatan. But Utila did have its moments, with Adult Spotted Drums and Barracuda.
