Inon X-2

  1. Inon X-2

    Hi,

I have just got the answer from an european Inon distributor that the housing will most probably not be available before Aug/Sep. (I guess they talked about this year  ).

He also mentioned it might not be "quiet cheap" (how exactly :? ).

    Has someone better news?

Seems to be an endless extended waiting game.

What will be released first, the X-2 housing or the 10D successor?

I bet 10 bucks on the successor :D

    regards,

    Julian

  2. X-2 is not a particularly actractive 10D housing from my point of view. It seems it will have limited availability in many countries, and will not have true TTL. I haven't put it on my list of possible 10D housings.

10D housing choices are sort of strange. There's now a wide range of housings (UK Germany, Sea and Sea, Jonah, ?Oceanbrite, Subal, Ikelite and Inon soon), but there seems to be hardly anyone actually diving with this camera, compared with the 300D or D70/D100/S2. IMO none of the above choices really stands out as a preferred option at the moment, although a cheap Ikelite TTL housing would be nice if it arrives some time soon.

  3. Yes, I agree with you, strange market alignment for the 10D.

Also the optical flash triggering with the Inon X-2 housing is not my preferred method.

I have called Bruder yesterday (http://www.bruder-uw-technik.com). They build pretty solid carbon housings for a very attractive price. The housings are very light and need a weight for becoming neutral underwater. But very nice for travelling (weight in the cargo compartment). The housing with full controls costs 1300 Euros. He would even skip some controls (I really don't need to set the clock or erase pictures underwater, don't care about WB -> RAW) and it will be even less. He also builds the dome on customers request for nice price. The fisheye dome costs around 500 Euros and has 250mm diameter hemisphere (acrylic, but glass is also available). Built time upon order is about 3-4 weeks for all of it.

For the time being it's my favorite. But this can change quickly

If choosing a housing without E-TTL-Conversion (almost any right now) it may be of interest to you: http://www.muenster.de/~matthias/blitz/indexe.htm

I hope the circuit will be available in July. I really like the idea because it would be independent and possible to build into almost every housing.

From the past Matthias Heinichs promises worked out great. The prototype works already he said. So I really hope this one will work great.

    regards,
