Tri-clamp with only two arms?

5 posts
  1. So, I went and bought a tri-clamp to mount a light on one of my strobe arms. However, I don't think I'll use the light on every dive, and on those dives I'd either run the tri-clamp with just the strobe arms and an empty place for the light, or I'd have to switch back to a normal clamp.

Can I use the tri-clamp with only two armballs, or can it be damaged by that so I should switch back to the standard clamp?

  2. Fill the void with the focus light ball. Alternatively buy a spare ball adapter to fill the gap. Leave the light attached. Buy a normal clamp to replace. I would just leave the light there and use it. I always have a light on my rig, even when it's super light underwater. I don't know you're situation or conditions you dive in, I wouldn't leave an empty hole in the clamp I think you will stress it

  3. I've had no problems so far using a tri-clamp for two arms, did exactly the same thing with my light that you do. I'd guess you would have to tighten the clamp really tight to stress it.

  4. I stressed it to control the motion... and it will bend the screw... definetely not recommended :B):
