  1. Titan D100 Aiming light mount

    Hi all,

I have recently been using my new Titan D100 housing from Light & Motion and have to ask how those of you who are using it are mounting your aiming light. The design of the bulkhead layout is EXTREMELY poor and the position of the aiming light slot is right in the way of the bulkheads. See the pics. Note how close the two ports are relative to the screw mount for the aiming light. And look how the sync cord has the weight of the cord bending it. This will cause faster wear and wire cracking of the expensive cord. However, my question is more relative to how you are mounting your aiming light so it is high enough to be out of the way of the sync cord. You can see in one photo how I jury rigged the ball joint to add about 2 inches of height. That in iteslf will have to be modified because when the screw comes loose underwater, the light just flops around and becomes useless. Any ideas?

    Regards,

  2. Hi Joe, welcome back.

I used the Titan D100 for 2 weeks in Fiji recently, diving a lot. I used the Loc Line mount for the mod light and I was happy with it that way. I could bend the loc-line up and over the bulkheads no problem. I think you could use ULCS clamps and arms and you'd get enough clearance. I agree that it would make more sense to put the aiming light mount in front of the bulkheads though...

I think the folks that designed the Titan want photographers to use two single cords as opposed to a dual cord. Since the ROC and handles control the strobes independently, it seems like they should be on separate cords. The fact that the cord bends over is something that will happen to ANY housing that has the bulkheads on the top (most of them) as the weight of the big black junction-thingy will cause it to bend over in air. It's not a problem underwater. You can make a bend restrictor that is stiffer than the one Ikelite uses by getting a piece of vinyl tubing and cutting it and fitting it around the cord.

  3. Loc Line mount

    James,

Where did you get the Loc Line mounting system and what aiming light are you using? I am currently using Q40 and Ike Mini C. If I can mount these that would be preferred.

By the way, the dual sync cord works great because you only have to fiddle with one ROC and not worry about a second adjustment. If I want to get some uneven lighting I merely pull one of the strobes back a bit.

    Thanks for the feedback.

  4. Hi Joe,

Here's a photo by Eric Cheng showing yours truly with the Titan:

You can see I was using the Mod light. I used the loc-line kit to attach the locline to the housing. I had an ULCS ball on the Mod light, (I use ULCS clamps to attach the Mod light to my Aquatica housing so that's what was on there) so I just clamped the ball onto the kunckle of the locline which worked fine.
