Anyone tempted by the E-M5 MK2 for video?

  1. Someone at the office just got a E-M5 Mk2 and I had a look,

The IBIS is AMAZING - it really was jaw dropping, thought my 12-35mm OIS was good, but gee!!

Sounds like Olympus have upped the Bitrates to 50+ so we are back to GH3 realms in terms of quality.

Thinking that IBIS of this quality would really help underwater with DSLR rigs, with slight movements etc (as I think we can all agree, they aren't as stable or balanced as a camcorder rig from gates etc..)

Uncompressed 422 out of the HDMI too... Filming in 4k is great and it really does provide super 1080, but do think more stable footage would be stellar.

Alas he has gone on holiday so I can't even borrow it to do some side by sides :(

Anyone else taking an interest in it?

  2. Nah, once you go 4K , how can you go back to 1080P? Just shoot 4K, stabilize your footage in post and output to 2.7K, it will have more detail than 1080P. Besides, 4K give you the advantage to punch in to the creature. I shoot a 3mm Sheep nudribranch, with my +7 on top of the Nauticam CMC-1, it looks small on a 4K footage, but if I crop it in for 1080P publish, it's a pretty good shot!

  3. Not sure if 'in-post' stabilisation would be able to provide the same quality without it looking odd (warping etc)

I do agree thou 4k is hard to step back from!

Look forward to someone doing a proper side by side review of the thing, that doesn't just look at the IBIS, but at the actual codec/recording quality.
