  1. Aquatica A300 eTTL + 300D + 18-55mm Starfish picture

A starfish picture I took in Monterey, CA.

  2. Don't laugh. Still getting use to my rig and figured starfish don't move too fast.

  3. As far as I can see, this is the first published shot with the famous Aquatica ETTL converter!

    Please tell us more:

    What strobe do you use?

    How is the TTL performing?

  4. Here's my test results. Let me know what you think.

  5. Twin Ds-125's - used with a dual bulkhead housing?

Thanks for posting the picture! Please let us know more about your eTTL experience.

  6. The exposure here looks really good, certainly not what your ttl test is indicating...

  7. It looks like the strobes are just putting out a fixed, low power output. What was you aperture set to for that starfish shot?

  8. We've got a bit distracted on your other thread Curtis with a slightly acrimonious discussion re: E-TTL and stuff

    More to the point:

1/I'm excited to finally see the results of the ICU.

2.The results suck, at least on your model. From what you've showed us on your test, it's definitely worse then no ICU - what appears to be a fixed, low power output as herb suggests. There's no way your flash should be underexposing at such wide apertures as your test suggests. (BTW, what's the guide number of the DS-125?)

3/Is the test with dual strobes, or only one?

4/Have you tried to shoot the test with the on-camera flash - just to make sure your camera isn't faulty.?

I have a sneaking suspicion your ICU is an extremely counterproductive addition to your housing. I think it's fluked the starfish photo, but isn't doing anything like what it's meant to.

I heard a rumour that Aquatica was using a single pre-flash system, which would be of dubious efficacy. It's disappointing to see your test - I've been waiting for the ICU ever since I first heard of it. I want to believe. But I thought I'd wait and see the results first...and so far they're sort of bad (and worse, this is the better of the two ICU's you've had!).

If you can let us know a bit more about teh settings etc, it would help to make sure I'm not unfairly maligning Aqautica's E-TTL system.
