Pretty good for a first outing! What is that second creature (labelled "sea devil" on your Flickr page)? It looks like a stargazer but is too flat. I've never seen it, whatever it is!
I'd say your next big step should be lighting. Even one strobe can work well for shots like these. Meanwhile however you can learn to work with ambient light at shallower depths (like your first image above) and then either use manual white balance in camera or shoot RAW and adjust white balance later.
The second one is a Monkfish, I did a literally translation from the Dutch name .
Thanks for the advice on the rest. I know what to do in the next months: practice, practice, practice,...
Nice shots @Hermit Crab. Just curious about that light on the left side of #2 and #3. Do you have any sort of material/mask blocking the pop-up flash on the RX100 II? It looks like the popup flash is on but mostly blocked, with a little light leaking through.
Keep it up!
It's the flashlight of my buddy ;-)
Ah, ha! That makes sense... good system!
Great start!
troporobo makes a number of excellent suggestions for improving the lighting and colours.
One I would add, get closer! Not easy when the subject can be a skittish fish - but you've already found the answer to that: practice, practice, practice All your pics would look even better if you could get much closer - especially the tube worm.
tx. Strobes are ordered allready and indeed, next photo's will be taken in RAW. And indeed, keeping up the practice .
Woohooo! Good man. Good luck with the strobes. May be worth having a look around various posts about strobe positions and settings. It's a bit of a voodoo science.
