We're based in Melbourne, Australia. My wife and I have been diving for a very long time. I take photos; she doesn't. We're both getting soft in our old age and prefer warm and easy diving in clear water; decent food and reasonably comfortable beds. We'd appreciate suggestions for good diving late this September (2015), preferably on our side of the world. We'd like 7 days of clear diving.

Might I suggest Wakatobi Dive Resort in Indonesia.
Besides having warm and easy diving in clear water on beautiful reefs with a variety of marine life, help dive staff, very large uncrowded dive boats, you have a first rate dive resort with excellent food and accommodations where you are very well cared for.
Here is a link to there blog site - http://blog.wakatobi.com/wordpress and Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/wakatobidiveresort?fref=tsto give taste of what is there.

I sure like Walt's idea!
Another option, although being as you are from Melbourne, I'm sure you have done Tulumben.... if not, I can recommend Tauch Terminal there and dive the Liberty wreck and the surrounding macro sites.
Then there is Vilamendhoo in the Maldives. Cracking island with a superb resort and very good shore diving with manta etc diving an easy boat ride. Diving is with Euro Divers. We've bene twice. Can heartily recommend.

Thanks Walt and Tim. Wakatobi is on our list. Looks very expensive though? We dived Vilamendhoo earlier this year and completely agree with your comments Tim - it was great, and we could easily return. Fabulous diving with whale sharks. I'll check out both of your suggestions. Thanks again.

Yeah, I was looking at Waka too and thought kind pricey. But, hey, Walt's paying so no problem

One other thought, Underwatertribe.com in Bali. Mike Veitch, Miho and Luca - all ex-Lembeh/Manado hands and terrific people. Well worth checking them out. I haven't (yet) dived with them but know them well.
