Graded GH4 V-log looks good.

  1. Alright, I looked at this from my 4K monitor, and looks like the grading is holding up. The sky do not have any banding. So those who have GH4, you might want to play around with it. I know underwater might be a bit challenging due to lost of light, but if you dive in tropical water with 100' visibility, I think it's worth a try!

  2. The only obvious issue to me is that cyan band between the white and blue in the sky, and that's a similar scenario to shooting towards the surface underwater. I'd be interested to know if that's a result of VLOG-L or would also appear in other photo styles (especially Natural).

  3. Yes, The sky looks strange, even with v-log, the compressed video has banding, from what I can see on my phone.

How did you expose? Did you use a grey card for the exposition setting? Because that might an exposition issue or just a compression issue.

    Recorded in 4K internally?

    What lens did you use?

However overall the grading is good!

  4. Atobit, that's not my video, I'm just sharing it here. I don't know which lens the person used.

Nick, as long as the sun ball is not too big, the cyan band might not be too bad. I think it's the draw back of digital sensor, you will always get some sort of banding when shooting sunball. I think a bigger sensor would help. I have problem with big sunball because the blue water banding is very visible, so if I were to shoot toward the sun, I look for dappled light.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone, I'm simply imply that I'm watching it with a 1:1 pixel environment and not a skewed setting. Often time a lot of people look at high resolution clip on a different resolution, video get scaled so it's not a "pixel peeping" evaluation. I will keep that in mind from now on.
