Can you polish Nauticam Dome Ports?

6 posts
  1. I got two wide angle Nauticam dome ports, the 8.5" and the 4.33" and i managed to get them both scratched. :(

I saw some youtube videos in which they polish the dome ports with a novus kit but then i heard you canot do this if the port is coated.

I have no clue if this is the case with the nauticams i have.

Should i give it a go?

  2. Glass domes? I know you can polish out scratches on acrylic domes. There are liquids available that are available through Amazon.

  3. I would go to the Nauticam USA site and send an email to Chris Parsons, the Nauticam US rep. to determine 1) if there are coatings and 2) the preferred way to "refinish" the domes. I doubt if there are coatings on plastic domes. If there are they are probably on the inside, but I think that is a glass dome feature. If deemed ok, you can use the micro mesh solution referenced in the pinned d,iscussion for deeper scratches. You will be refinishing the entire dome. If light scratches are your issue, you can go with the Novus polishes found on Amazon. I have used the micro mesh multi step kit for an Ikelite dome (it had heavy duty dings/scratches that showed in photos) and Novus for a Nauticam 4.33" dome (light scratches that did not show in photos). Great results with both.

  4. Thanks,

I am going to order the novus and give it a go!

  5. good luck! a slow process - patience is key! And you will get a lifetime supply of Novus. the bottles are BIG! And..... slide by the household cleaner area of Lowe's or automotive department of your favorite "Mart" and get some cheap microfiber hand towels - invaluable for many camera related things!
