As Recsea have released a Panasonic G7 housing, this cheap camera could be great for 4K video especially at higher ISO which is important underwater.
This comparison of the G7 and GH4 at 12.30 mins, shows the low light, high ISO performance of the G7 to be significantly better than the GH4. The draw backs of 30 min clips, no weather proofing, no headphone jack etc don't matter when cocooned in the housing. Also it's half the price of the GH4 and 5.5 times cheaper than the Sony A7r2. Both the other cameras are very good no doubt but for the more casual underwater videographer (I am starting to do more video in addition to stills now) the G7 could be a great budget option.
Now the G7 has Recsea, $1880 and Ikelite, $975 housing options and the price here in Australia has dropped to $625 AU ($480 US) is no one else considering this as a budget 4K rig?
I use Panasonic LX100 as a budget 4K, the lens itself is good and the same as the 12-35mm lens. Until 4K high frame rate and better Image stabilization come along, I don't feel that it's necessary to spend too much on a 4K set up unless you have commercial work that require it.
You can get Ikelite Sony RX100 IV for $1,500 housing and camera and does not need a port system
The high frame rate mode is also interesting
Was actually trying to find a used gh4 set up, but this is interesting. Anyone else have any input on the g7?
