new d70 zoom control anyone?

  1. new d70 zoom control anyone?

Hello D70 / Ikelite housing owners..

I just emailed Tom at Ikelite to request a knob/lever assembly for the zoom control... I think this would be easier to control than trying to rotate the knob only..which requires grasping the knob with two fingers.. This new knob/lever would be similar to the shutter release knob on the opposite side.. Anyone else think this would be a good idea for this housing?

  2. Ikelite has made a control like this before upon request. They call it a "wiper" which can sorta be used to brush the zoom ring and push it around a little. It's not as good by a long shot when compared to the zoom gear/knob though and is only used when the gear/knob can't be made to work.

    Cheers

    James

  3. I am not a fan of the zoom control, recommending you zoom with your fins most of the time. I can send you a knob with the long set screw if you want to forward shipping information to:

Thanks Ike! It looks like a simple change over. Seems like a set screw holds the knob in place. I need to get some part numbers squared away with Tom so I'll give him the info.

James - I'm not referreing to changing the gear and sleeve that Ike has designed to fit around the lens barrel..this works fine. I just need a lever off the zoom knob so my finger can reach while still holding the left tray handle.

  5. I gotcha. Good idea.

  6. I guess I'm lucky enough to have long fingers. I have no problems operating the zoom knob with my middle finger and thumb, while still holding on to the tray handle.

I have much more trouble operating the shutter speed dial.

    Hey Jim -

Yep. That's it...short fingers.. they come in handy working in kids mouths all day but for holding onto tray and knob no good! I know Ike will custom make something for me.

  8. Interesting idea Starbuck. Please let us know how you resolved the issue (which parts were needed, how did you set them up, etc.) and how it worked for you. I might be interested in getting a lever off the zoom knob myself in the future :D

  9. I went for a ULCS adjustable tray and 2 ULCS handles......I've got the handles adjusted so that even my wife can reach the zoom or aperture knobs with two fingers.....makes for a smaller overall rig......$$$$$ but worth it.....call Ryan for details

  10. Interesting! Ever since I got my rig, I've been missing my tray, handle, and arms from my Oly rig.

I'm considering upgrading when I get back from Cozumel.

  11. zoom control update

    Hey Guys -

just got off the phone with Tom.. he is going to send me a lever for my knob. I'll just tap a hole and screw in..

Ike and Tom - Thanks for your immediate help.. service is always GREAT!

Karl - thanks for the info on UCLS tray..did not know they had one..
