  1. Kodak Purple Fringe and How to Eliminate it.

    Hi folks,

A lot of people have been knocking the Kodak for creating purple fringes along lines in high contrast photos. This is not so much the fault of the camera as it is a combination of the sensor pack, lens and full frame sensor.

I have a Nikon 18-35ED widangle which is sort of a "consumer" lens. I shot some high contrast photos of a house today and converted them to jpegs using Adobe Camera Raw.

    This is the scene:

    F16 @ 1/30th - ISO 250 (why did I shoot 250? I just forgot to set it to 160)

    Obviously very high contrast

Here is a crop from the scene - it's a jpeg cropped from a full sized jpeg converted using the DEFAULT settings in Adobe Camera Raw:

Here is a crop from a Jpeg that I made using Adobe's Chromatic Aberration correction sliders. I didn't spend a lot of time perfecting the CA adjustment, but I got it nearly perfect. I slid the R/C to the left and the B/Y to the right:

This is why folks who "know" recommend using ACR and always shooting RAW with this camera. Any questions?

    Cheers

  2. The CA adjustment seemed to work pretty well, James.

Just for comparison, here's a similar shot I posted as part of a lens test on another photo site about a year ago (from my then-new 10D). The Kodak actually doesn't look all that much worse than the 10D, and the 10D isn't famous for producing purple fringing by any means. These are 100% crops with no adjustments.

  3. Goo on ya Rob. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers

    James
