this looks really great!!! Thanks for sharing the story and pictures.
Eric,
You sure know how to hurt a guy. I'd just decided to stick with my current equipment and buy a kayak instead. Now I'm gonna have to build a kayak so I can afford that D60! Of course, then I would probably have to find the money to house it . . . Seriously, though, great shots -- your dolphin pod over the sand is poster material. Too bad you decided to use your buddies as a shield when that hammerhead showed up
. Also, I always carry some marine epoxy with me -- might have been able to plug that hole in your extension ring.
fantastic photos... camera envy enabled.
Thanks for sharing
Chris
Have any of you out there been getting 404 errors while connecting to the bahamas report?
Two people so far have complained of it. Unfortunately, once of them was Steve of Steve's Digicams.
No problem. Try it from two different places, home & work.
The only problem I got is when I click "send to a friend" fill-in the form and click "send". Then I got a 404 error.
I didn't know there was a "send to a friend" feature on my site. How are you getting to it?
(confused!)
I got the error when using Netscape. Our company uses an older version and lots of newer java stuff just doesn't work. I skipped ovber to IE and it worked fine. Incidentally, my old Netscape browser also has trouble with some of the graphics on wetpixel's main page . . .
Sorry Eric, it was already late. "send to a friend" here on top of the forum.
I use IE 5.5 & IE 6 and use your link in the forum here.
Eric,
Those are some truly fabulous shots. I commend you on your professional-looking work.
I've got one question for you, if you don't mind. After reading your trip report I realized you dove a lot of the same places I dove this past week with Sea Fever. In particular, Sugar Wreck. If my memory serves me right I believe it was Jim Abernethy's boat that was moored next to us one night on Sugar Wreck.
Unfortunately, because of an earlier incident of me swallowing about a gallon of sea water (that's what happens when you're freediving and your brain still thinks you're scubadiving) I got a little sick and missed a pair of dives on the Sugar Wreck. I did get to dive it one night and saw that same spotted eel and a few of the stingrays that hung around.. What I missed (and I'm still kicking myself about) were the Orangeball Coralimorphs (you misnamed them Orange Anemones [they're not really anemones]). Could you tell me more or less where you saw them? I can tell you that one of the mooring balls lies almost right above where the spotted eel hangs out (also where the pair of flamingo tongues were at). Was it near that area?
Next time I dive that spot (possibly the end of this month) I definitely want to photograph the Orangeball Coralimorphs. I've been looking for some of those guys for over a year down here in South Florida with no such luck.
my bad, about the naming . they were referred to as both of the names on the boat.
They were easily found, but only if you knew what you were looking for. There's an enclosed box you can get into (hard with a camera + strobes) that has a nice one on an open wall, and were most often found at the base of the walls of the long open corridors you can swim down.
Jim Abernethy knows where a few of them are, but once he points them out, they're easy enough to find on your own. ![]()
Eye popping work, as usual, Eric!
That's Orange Ball Corallimorph (2 l's), Laz. Lots of them here in Bonaire :-)
I agree Absolutely Fabulous!!! How do you do it!!!!
