Quick trip to Cozumel

  1. I went to Cozumel to meet up with an old friend I have not seen in years, and he just started diving again recently. We stayed at Casa Mexicana, and the trip was set up by the dive shop, Tres Pelicanos. The dive operation was very good, and not too expensive. The hotel was fine, although there was some construction going on in the lobby, which bothered some guests whose rooms were closer to the noise. We just dove for three days, and it was excellent. Water was a little choppy at the surface, but other than that, conditions were excellent.

Here are some photos from the trip

  4. Great shots, and a great occasion. What a fantastic opportunity to catch up with someone after so long. You took lots of good shots including the iconic splendid toadfish, but the lighting on that turtle is spectacular. Thanks so much for sharing!

At the risk of hijacking your thread, allow me to share a story: Cozumel made me a diver, and more importantly, started my wife and I diving together for the past 30 years. I was a newlywed (in Seattle) and my bride wanted to dive. I was not interested. She begged, pleaded, nothing was working. Finally, knowing my affinity for Mexico, she promised a trip to Cozumel if I would learn with her. Learning in Puget Sound was awful for her but I was hooked. Our first dive in warm water was off the Cozumel pier on Christmas day 1986 and we surfaced with a new life long passion. Yeah, that word is overused, but in our case it is totally appropriate. We owe a lot to Cozumel.

  5. Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. Troporobo, that is a great story. Most diving spots make it easy to get hooked, but Cozumel is one of the best because the diving is so easy, and the reefs are so interesting. Those two things don't always go together.
