Inon Z240 fires underwater **without** touching shutter

  1. Most of my shooting is done blindly and walking through a river. Today I noticed that if I submerged the flash it would fire repeatedly... without me touching the camera shutter. If I took it out of the water it would stop, if I put it back under it would start flashing again. It would also fire just fine if I pressed the shutter.

I looked at all the connections and did not notice any moisture inside the sync cord plugs (nothing in the the end going to the strobe or the housing). I checked under the battery cap and nothing. I swapped batteries thinking it was a battery issue, but that didn't solve the problem either.

Has anyone come across this issue?

  2. Hey!

Not heard of that one before!

Have you got the slave sensors covered up? Is it possible, if they are uncovered, that they are picking up some sort of light reflection from the moving water?

  3. I have seen this happen with my Inon strobes occasionally when near the surface on a bright day. I think Tim is right, the sparkling sunlight tricks the slave sensors.

  4. +1 on slave sensors.

  5. The slave sensors are not covered, but they will be in about one minute! Just need to grab some black electrical tape... :) It was indeed a very bright day yesterday with hardly a cloud in the sky.

I will try that and see what happens. Should be able to test it today, so fingers crossed that does the trick!

Ahhh, yep, I reckon that'll do it. Do let us know if that works.

    Good luck!

Cloudless blue sky eh? Hmmmmmm, nice!

  7. That seemed to do the trick. Thanks guys!!

  8. Phew.....

Our mission here is accomplished

    A pleasure, CFA

  9. The S2000 strobe is also susceptible to electrical interference. On dive boats in anilao, the s2000 will often fire repeatedly if it is close to the engine with the sensor completely covered.

  10. Thanks for the heads up. Will keep that in mind next time I find myself operating near any electronics!
