I have a coolpix 5400, a Ikelite housing and an old Ikelite substrobe 100A. The camera doesn´t fire the substrobe at all. I know the old Ikelite substrobes need an update for firing with digital Nikon cameras. Ikelite calls it "F5 update", and make it for $35, but I live in Spain and it´s neccessary to send the substrobe to Indianapolis. I think this update need to replace a 3.3k resistor for a 10K resistor in the strobe, and I want do it myself. Does anyone know how make this "update"? I prefer modify the housing hot shoe, but if neccessary I can open the strobe and modify electronic circuit.
I accept sugesstions from Ikelite of course.
Regards.

Problem may be something else if the strobe is not firing at all when connected with a sync cord. Strobe requiring the F5 update will fire once then lock up the camera until everything is turned off. Suggest you check the sync cord and the hot shoe in the housing.
Thanks, Ike, for your suggestions.
The strobe fire if I close the housing hot shoe contacts (does it mean
the strobe, the sync cord and the hot shoe work OK?). The strobe also fire with the
TTL-slave sensor.
What is the problem then?
Strobe firing indicates camera setting is wrong. See suggestions on following URL:
