  1. How bad will a $330 Oly package be (D-565 + PT-017)?

Just bought an Olympus D-565 4MP from OfficeMax, and a PT-017 from Samsclub is on the way. Total for both delivered will be less than $330.

Without any filters, and using internal flash, can I expect to get some decent shots out of this package? Maybe 50% decent, or is that too much to ask? I know it will pale in comparison to a $2000 setup, but for some 5x7 prints, will it be O.K?

Plan on reef diving south Florida and keys, in 35ft to 50ft of water.

From what I've read, close up shots should be O.K., but past 7 ft and ???

Without spending more, (I do have photoshop 7.01, but no clue on how to use it yet), are there some things I can do that will help this budget setup?

This is my third Oly in 5 years, but first attempt at underwater photo's.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rob

  2. Yes you will be able to get some decent pictures. I have one of the first Sony PC-1 3.3mpix camera and housing and got some nice shots out of it. You just have to play around with the settings and force it into manual mode. Since you'll be in nice clear water, you'll get great shots. The only way to know is to get it wet. Post your pictures for all to see.

  3. You can get good shots if you work within the limitations of the equipment.

7 ft is way out of range of the flash. Limit yourself to no more than about 2 ft. Much closer if you can manage.
