Slow shutter speeds on digicams

  1. I am currently trying to decide whether to go digital or SLR underwater.

I have a FujiFinepix 4900Z which is a superb camera giveing me 6x optical zoom but with complete manual overide of exposure, apeture, manual focusing ring and a through the lens digital viewfinder,

However i have heard that digital cameras suffer from slow shutter speeds and so can be difficult to use when trying to photograph fast moving fish. Is this true?

I also have noticed on my camera that the autofocus is less than happy at night unless i provide some illumination of the target. But i would have thought fish would get very pissed off with being put under a spotlight.

Has anyone got experience of using both SLR and good quality digital underwater?

  2. It's not slow shutter SPEED that is the problem - it is shutter lag.

    Cheers
