  1. I am thinking of putting a few images on Alamy. There are two licensing choices; royalty free and rights managed. The first allows use for unlimited time while the latter requires the purchaser to define a time for his use of the picture. I am leaning towards royalty free but am not sure which would be better. I would be interested in opinions.

  2. I've been with Alamy just over 5 years and have used both options and, frankly, have never been able to tell the difference in terms of volume of sales or income.

Maybe it's just my experience and the quality of my pics, but don't hold your breath on making fame and fortune from it. I've got almost 3500 images with them and have earned roughly the equivalent of a couple of lenses. There does't appear to be a big market on Alamy for u/w images. But, like i say, that might be just my images.....

    Good luck with it!

Thanks for the info. My initial four pictures just passed QC and are online. Your camera/system and most of your pictures are much better than mine so I won't expect much, if anything. I am mostly retired but doing independent consulting about 20% of my time. Adding all those captions and keywords will give me something to do when I get bored but it would be nice to make a few $s so I could dive more often.

My pleasure. What's there to lose eh? I'm in a very similar position to you!

  5. Royalty free means that your images will sell for typically less than a dollar and can be used for whatever the purchaser wants. Royalty Managed means they will typically sell for a larger sum and the buyer can only use them for what they state in the contract.

Typically you will sell more from Royalty Free but only make about 25 cents per image.

If you are interested in Royalty Free then there are better options out there such as Shutterstock, I don't think the Royalty Free market on Alamy is that big, I think they sell more Rights Managed (but don't quote me on that) I only sell Rights Managed on Alamy
