FO cable rubber bushings

  1. I recently got a camera (Olympus OM-D E-M10) and a Meikon housing for it.

I just got two used Inon Z240 Type 3 strobes. The strobes came with FO cables. The end that screws onto the strobe is fine. The other end is bare.

I tested the strobes by opening the camera's built-in flash (on land, with no housing) and holding the FO cable up to it, pointing the end of the cable into the flash, and snapping a pic. Both strobes fired when I tested them each this way.

After some searching and reading, I gather that I need rubber bushings. The end of the cable inserts into a hole and then the bushing plugs into the hold on my housing.

My housing has 2 holes for FO cables.

All the bushings I have seen have 2 holes in the bushing.

Should I order 2 bushings, so I won't have any light coming out of the second hole in my housing?

Should I put 1 cable in each bushing and leave one hole in each bushing empty?

Or, should I put both cables in one bushing and just use a second bushing as a plug for that hole in the housing?

Or should I just get one bushing and leave the other hole open?

    Sorry for my newbishness!

What I'm thinking I would do is order one of the 90 degree bushings and put both cables in that . That seems like it would make for nicer cable routing, as the holes in my housing are right above the lens and point forward.

And also order 2 of the regular 2-hole bushings. Put one in the other housing hole, as a plug, and have the other one handy as a spare.

Make sense or should I do something different?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Stuart

I have a similar situation with my Inons and a Subal housing.

I've found it makes no difference whether I use one or two bushings; nor whether I put one FO cable into both holes in one bushing; or use one FO cable in each bushing.

Most of the time I just use one bushing and keep one as a spare.

  3. Cool. Thanks, Tim!

I think I will go with the plan I mentioned, then. The regular bushings are only $3, so I can afford a couple of spares. :-) Having one in the housing just as a plug means I'll always have a ready spare right there, if I somehow lose or break the 90 degree one.

  4. Sounds a good call, Stuart.

  5. Reusable and field serviceable. I don't have experience with the Inon specific one, but used this particular one successfully with a Nauticam housing that I had several years ago.

Just another option if the Inon didn't do what you wanted it to do.

  6. Get the two hole straight busing ($3) or so.

    Don't need the right angle.
