  1. So I'm positive I'll just need to send my strobes in to the manufacturer, but thought I would see if anyone has had similar issues. I'll try to make this short:

-Bought two brand new in box Inon Z-240 Type 4 strobes off ebay (first mistake...)

-Went to Palau, one strobe would work topside then flash once in the water and stop working altogether underwater, I used dual sea&sea sync cords

-Came home, tested both strobes using the reef photo paperclip technique and they both seemed to work fine, also bought one dual sea&sea sync cord thinking it was a bulkhead problem, tested both strobes in the pool again with same results

-Strobe still did not work, sent back and miraculously got a new one

-Now the second strobe I bought the first time around is doing the same thing, where it seemed to function fine before.

Has anyone else had this issue before? I think the seller is selling a bad batch of Inon strobes. I'm not even sure if the manufacturer will be able to fix this problem or not. Thank you guys for your help, this is making me crazy.

  2. What eBay seller?

  3. Likelyhood is high that it's a bad batch the seller is selling. Great that inon will send u a new one..

  4. Hi k-k

I'm sure you have thought of this, but it's not possibly an issue with batteries, is it? Possibly rechargeables on the fritz? I guess not if the Inons work on the surface but then not underwater. Just a thought though.

What a real bummer though. Sorry. :(

  5. Hi Katy

The strobe underwater, you noticed it is not working looking to the pictures or looking to the strobe directly? For instance, if you have the preflash button on the wrong position or malfunctionning, the strobe might be firing but the picture does not get the light they should.

I had problems with the corrosion of the magnets on these buttons, and started having problems (but after some years of use).

  8. Hey guys, thank you all for the responses. Private msg me for the ebay info, (I'm still trying to work out my strobe issues with them so I don't want to piss anybody off, on the off chance they frequent this forum...).

TimG, I did think it could be a battery issue, but all my eneloop's are brand new and I switched them out a few times, so that's a no-go there. I took the original bad strobe to Reef Photo, and although they didn't pull it apart, they couldn't figure out why it wasn't working in water, hence why I bought new sync cords, (thank God I didn't replace the bulkheads!!)

Pbalves, the strobe will fire once or twice then stop firing altogether, and then it might start back up if I turn it off and on a bunch of times, if only the fish would stop and pose for me :)

I'm going to contact o'dude from ebay today and see if my warranty will cover this, (not sure if it's a good idea to have him replace the strobe as it might be from the same bad batch??)

    Yeah, sucks :(

  9. I guess.. U can use the good strobe to try all the cables and bulkhead etc.. To eliminate them from bad. But underwater... Hm... A big pail? If no pool or ocran/river nearby
