HELP: S2 Pro; 4 GB Hitachi & X-Drive Pro

The 4 GB Hitachi was formatted FAT 16 using Boot It NG, as the S2 does not recognize FAT 32. The X-Drive Pro recognizes FAT and FAT 32. The 4 GB will not work in the X-Drive. How can I get all three items talking to each other. I have Windows XP Home Edition. Is it possible that if I somehow format the MD as FAT, I will need a partition at 2 GB and will not be able to use all 4 GBs in the S2?

If I recall, the Xdrive must be formatted Fat16. I wonder if that has something to do with it??? Othewise, I'm stumped too.
