Strobe arm compatibility

  1. Strobe arm compatibility

    Hi All,

I try to figure out what strobe arms to choose.

Are the Sea&Sea arm balls compatible with Inon arms/balls? same Diameter?

I have the Inon Z220 with Z Adapter and wonder if this can be mounted to the Sea&Sea Arm VI Set.

    Thank you

    Julian

  2. They aren't the same size the S&S is bigger.

But the clamps(S&S or INON or ULCS) will hold two different kinds of arms in a pinch.

Inon and ULCS seem to be the same.

I have just ditched my S&S arms in favour of ULCS.

The local S&S dealer uses ULCS for his own rig. The Inon dealer is more loyal!

I do't think there is much between Inon and ULCS.

    Cheers

  3. Thank you.

Meanwhile I have heard/read that the Sea&Sea Arm is not one of the best. I should prefer ULCS (Couldnt find a dealer in Germany until now?) or Inon.

  4. Not really on topic but maybe of interest to newby's out there. Have a looked at (if you can find them), Epoque ball joint strobe arms. Their cheap and not too bad. Same ball size as Ultralight, with 'O' ring. Only diff is that there made from Polycarbonate. For not too heavy use they should be OK

  5. The Epoque arms have a metal bar running through them ~0.5cm in diameter. I can wedge it in a

door jam and hang from it (~215lbs) so I'm not sure what heavy use is, but it will work for me.

The Epoque clamps are another thing. I hope I just got a bad one, it looks like the nifty

polycarbonate had a bubble in it:

but it sort of scares me.

Very interesting. Did not know about the metal bar but now that I have had a closer look, you are right! The clamp is another story however. I think that with carefull use above water and on smaller cameras sets they should be OK. We have not had any returned..... so far. Of course can't compare to quality of ULCS but at the price they may be attractive to divers new to photography who don't want to spend an arm and a leg...... just yet!

  7. I'm pretty sure it wasn't use. It broke when I hooked up an Inon D-180s, and

at a setting with significantlly less tension than the other clamp used. I'm pretty

sure the bubble did it in.

By the way, don't google for "ball clamp" at work (some of those sites are not

    doing underwater photography.)
