  1. July Cozumel Gallery

Finally got around to digging through all the photos I shot.

I had a lot that I really like, I wanted to narrow it down to about 10 for this post, but settled for 12. :)

All were taken with the Nikon D70 and the kit lens (18-70) with a +4 diopter. I think this lens has shown to be a pretty darn good all around lens. Takes some reasonable macro shots, as well as some reasonable wide angle shots.

  2. Wow very nice shots Jim. The Octopus is great. What great color and sharpness. The colors are so very natural.

If you are talking about that last Octopus, then that is a shot that almost never was.

I was going through the photo's in thumbnail mode ruthlessly deleteing anything that didn't look interesting, when I came across about 8 Octopus shots in a row that were all horribly over exposed. I paused before deleteing them to remember how cool that Octopus was on that dive.

So I went a head and opened it up in Adobe Camera RAW to see if maybe it was salvagable.

What you see up there is the results of taking the exposure waaaaaaay down, and turning the shadows waaaaaaaay up.

Here is the as shot version.

The power of RAW never ceases to amaze me.

  5. Nice work Jim. Makes me want to go back to Coz...

  6. Raw is amazing , don't know if you used the highlight/shadow tool on CS that is pretty usefull utility.

  7. As long at the highlights aren't clipped, then there is no reason that you can't bring the exposure down infinitely. RAW is awesome.

    Cheers
