This may be a dumb question since I've just started using the 300D, but on last weekend's dives I wanted to see what the effect of speeds >200 was on the external strobes (i.e., what the masking looks like). I bumped up the speeds to way past 200, and while the info readout would show, i.e. 1/1000, the camera would only record at 1/200, confirmed by exif info afterward.
So, assuming you want to shoot at a speed past the sync speed, how do you do it? I know people here (herb) have done tests showing that the 200 sync speed max isn't necessarily true, how do you get there?

Re: Getting higher sync speed on 300D? How?

With the Inon strobes, there's no issue of "getting there". On manual mode, any speed up to 1/320 works. At 1/400 about 1/4 of the strobe exposure gets cut off.
I know Herb has used 1/320 as a max and a few others.
I thought all you had to do was set it there. If different, I too am curious...
Wouldn't think strobe mfg has anything to do with it, they're all synced up the same way, but I am using S&Ss.
Was on full manual, shooting at 1/1000 and still getting full exposure, so there was no "there" there....
hmmmm.......

I think the strobe does make a difference. Do you have the Aquatica TTL circuits in?
Ahhh, not yet, Color me wrong......
Chris
I seem to remember a long time ago somebody mentioned on this board that there are pin connections that you can block with tape which will allow unlimited shutter settings and still sync the strobes.

I don't think anyone has the ICU yet do they? Last word I got is they may be coming out very soon. (I should preface that with the one that will work for INON's)
You should preface that with 'the ones that will work with any strobe'. 'Manual TTL' ICU demonstration pictures have previously been posted here.
I was told that I should be good to go for an October trip with ICU.
