  1. Help us Ike, help us!!

copied from my email to the "Addled Shopkeeper"

    "Hi Ike.

Currently the only digital TTL option available to those of us using Nikon digital SLRs underwater that I am aware of is the Subal strobe case for either the SB80DX or SB800.

It strikes me that Ikelite might be in an excellent position to produce a small housing for these strobes to cater for this market.

A simple box with a Nikonos sync cord plus or minus minimal strobe controls ought to be an easy task for you! And probably at a much more attractive price than the Austrian version :-)

    Any thoughts?"

Obviously it could also be produced with an Ike or even Sea &Sea sync cord too

And it could be used for the SB50DX or the SB600 too, and might even work with the various Coolpixies!!

Who said I never have any ideas?

  2. Ike's reply:

"Our conversion circuitry for Olympus works very well.

We are waiting for production circuit boards and final testing having

finished eTTL for Canon which will include exposure compensation and

manual capability besides eTTL while underwater.

We believe Nikon iTTL which will be next should be much more simple

than the Canon. Housed surface strobes are not really satisfactory

except perhaps for close-up. We can offer an underwater strobe for

not much more money than a housing.

Will also have new one more new strobe early next year."

  3. Not a bad idea, Andrew, But Mr Ike is very busy working on eTTL - please do not distract him!

  4. Hi Andrew,

Uwe Kiel (UK-Germany) offers a less expensive strobe housing (400 Euros incl. 16% german tax which you might not have to pay when ordering from US?!). Unfortunetly different to Subal it comes with a flat glass and no switches.

But Uwe offered to replace it with a dome glass without extra charge. And 50 bucks on top for an on/off switch.
