Batteries for strobes

  1. Hi,

I couldn't find a conversation about this so please point me in the right direction if there is one so that I don't duplicate threads.

    I use a YS-110 and YS-110a strobe.

I was wondering if anyone had any info on batteries to use.

I have 2600 mAh for one and 2000 mAh for the second.

Does anyone know how many discharges I should get from the batteries when the strobe if fired when used on full power mode?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a dive trip coming up where I'd be doing multiple days a day and I'm trying to work out how many spare batteries and chargers to bring along with me. I usually only do one dive a day when at home in Sydney..... so haven't ever run out of power.

  2. Hi,
get two sets of Panasonic Eneloops per strobe and you will be fine.
I use the white ones, not so "strong" but more cycles....
And a charger per strobe ;-))
Normally you will get two dives out for sure, but the third can get to much...
    Have fun,
    Wolfgang

Agreed. I swap strobe batteries after each dive. The spare set is charged by the time I surface.
  4. Awesome thanks :)

  5. Get a Maha 8 battery charger. Best charger i've found and more convenient than 2 chargers when fighting for sockets. Bring 2 sets of eneloops for each strobe plus 2 spares. I've had batteries die on trips, and a single dead battery was enough to stop the strobe.

  6. stop fighting for sockets and bring an extension cord !

  7. It is very important to use a charger that can charge each battery equally. There have been issues with some strobes where each has not been charged equally. I had issues twice due to this. So i now use this charger :

Eneloops are your best bet Pro's or the white ones.
