Any LX10 in the wild?

Youtube is full of review of this little camera for land use.

Except a couple of video at Backscatter I don't see any real user feedback for underwater use.

Nauticam provides the ubiquitous WWL-1 to get wide angle shots but when you add over 1000$ to the kit you end up in another territory...

Is there some other cheaper but effective solution to get wide shots? I don't care about macro.

Or, they stayed with their trusty LX100. I don't see a compelling reason to upgrade. In fact, it strikes me as more of a downgrade.

Interesting. I'm starting fresh, as my last camera and lens took a dunk- sans housing.

I've been trying to decide between the LX10 (or LX100?) and another M4/3- like a used GX7, or GX85. I like the idea of the smaller/smallish housings for these. The GH5 is too expensive, and the housing is notably larger (I think).

The LX10 would be considered as an "Upgrade" if you are want to shoot macro 4K video because the crop factor would make it about 108mm. For the LX100, the macro 4K video is only around 87mm after crop factor. In term of setup, the LX10 gives you the most bang for the buck because the complete housing, tray and vacuum can be purchased for US$1250.

The LX100 complete setup could be expensive for point and shoot:

- Housing: $1200

- 67mm short port: $180

- Flip diopter (it's the only way you can use macro diopter) $220

- Flexitray II: around $250

- Vacuum valve: $220

If you are new to UW video/photo, I would say the LX10 is a good starting setup and is budget friendly.

Great post @kc_moses. It is certainly cheaper to house the LX-10 with Nauticam. The Ikelite housing is even cheaper at $550 but has no TTL circuitry . I agree that it is an excellent P/S option for someone looking to buy their first underwater camera or upgrade from a GoPro. That said, I don't think the LX10 is a trade-up from the LX100. It has a smaller sensor, less dynamic range and less manual control. The longer lens is certainly nice but both cameras require diopters for super macro.

I would be considered "old" to u/w photo (and most things!) vs. new- in that I've been shooting with my old E-PL1/YS-90's combo for a long time. Before that, various p&s back to film.

I rented a G7X on my last trip for a couple days and that got me looking back at the p&s cameras as it was impressive. I like everything from macro to w/a, but tend to choose macro, and have a SubSee +10. Video (that- I am new to) is important, and I will be buying a couple video lights with this round.

And yes, the total price of the LX10 kit is nice!

I just decided to simplify and moved to an LX10 from a Canon DSLR setup. I used the new rig for 10 dives last week. To answer the first question -- you can save a lot of money by going with the INON UWL-100 with our without the accessory dome. Image quality looks a bit worse from the reviews than the WWL-1 but maybe not much. You can get both the UWL-100 and the dome for $700. Having said that, I went with the WWL-1 mainly because of the bayonet mount feature. Way back when I used to shoot compacts with the 67mm threaded lenses and found threading them on and off to be a bit of a pain. To use the WWL-1 as bayonet mount, you need a separate bayonet mount adapter on the housing. The Nauticam housing comes with 67mm threads. If you get the WWL-1, I recommend getting the buoyancy collar, though that makes it even bigger. The buoyancy collar also complicates trying to nest the WWL-1 on an arm mount. With the collar on, an 8" ULCS arm is barely long enough to park the lens there. I cann't imagine trying to take the WWL-1 underwater without the collar, however, unless the intent is to leave it on the housing the whole time.

To answer the macro question: The camera, itself, does not excel at macro. If macro is all you want, maybe consider the TG-5. I got the CMC-1 wet lens, but did not play with it much. It requires yet another adapter to attach to lens so you can attach it to the housing adapter to be bayonet mount, but it is worth it to me to only have to turn a quarter turn and have the lens lock into place.

In my limited test drive, found the camera to be fairly responsive, though switching from a DSLR is a learning curve. I was impressed with the wide angle capabilities and the video seems very clear, though I need to get up to speed on white balancing. Macro is much different than with a DSLR and 100mm lens. That will take some getting used to, as will going back to having shutter lag, even if it is relatively minimal. However, I was able to leave an entire suitcase home this time because I didn't have to carry lenses and ports. That is keeping me happy.

I will be even happier if I can find a better way to park the WWL-1 underwater. It is a beast.

I also need to get a bit more buoyancy onto the entire rig. I am using Stix floats but the lens caddy takes up a lot of space, displacing the floats.

According to the retailers, they are selling quite a few LX10 kits so they have to be out there somewhere.

I guess I'm too new to start a new topic on wetpixel, so I will reply to this thread. I've had a chance to test out my LX10 now (on 3 dives). I've put a video together with the various settings (AWB WB/Custom WB, Lights, red filter, etc). See video description for full details, settings and depth are directly in the video itself. I like what I've seen so far, now time for wide angle lens and some better dive conditions.

anyone doing macro shots with the lx10/lx15, how does it fare with macro? it seems the only shots out there are out of official reviews unfortunately....
