15 Dives + 4 Batteries per 2 Dives = Broke Diver

  1. Howdy,

I will be heading out to Cozumel in about six weeks and have a concern. I use the OLY 3020z (with PT-010) and use only the internal strobe. For the most part, I shoot macro.

Now for the fun part. Buying batteries! It takes 4AA batteries to power me thru two dives, or about 80 pictures. At three dives a day for five days, that’s about 32 individual batteries!

I consider myself to be an energy miser when it comes shooting UW. I do things like turning the LCD monitor off when not in use and such, but JEEZ! 32 batteries??!! That comes out to be right around $50 bucks!

So what do you guys think about using rechargeable batteries?

    Solutions?

    Comments?

    Funding??!!

  2. NiMh rechargables are the only way to go... save the environment... save your dough.

  3. NiMH batteries are the way to go.

THe WalMart way: get the Rayovac PS4 1 hour charger at $30.00 and two or more sets of energizer 1700 MAH batteries for about $12.00. Just over $50.00 and never buy batteries again.

The Rayovac batteries are 1600 MAH for about the same price.

The neat thing about the Energizer batteries is that when you peel away the paper package, the inner plastic package can be used as a battery case. This keeps your batteries from shorting out, which is safer for travel.

If you want to order on-line, you can get 1800MAH batteries. Look for the brand "MAHA".

You definitely want a quick charger.

  4. NIMH are the only way to go.

Try Radio Shack they have 1800 MAH batteries and a Hi-speed charger. I have used them for years.
