  1. arm length for WA (ULCS)

    Hi all,

I have decided to go for ULCS arms. They seem to be quiet good and offer a great compatibility (also buying a tray for my NikonosV).

For WA I would like to get three clamps with two arm segments. What length would you suggest? FOV will be from ~ 80° to ~ 110°.

    thank you,

    Julian

I would suggest two 12" segments. My second choice would be 8"+12".

I use TLC in 2X11" incarnation and it provides me with enough flexibility and a nice spread lighting pattern.

Don't know which strobes you use but putting a diffuser to soften the light is, most of the time, a good idea.

  3. FWIW...I use 8" and 5" arms

  4. thank you,

I was tempted to order two 16" for WA. But I guess they can be a bit less handy. I think I will get two 12" and later some shorter for exchange.

  5. The current thinking for WA is to keep the stobes closer and aim out.....the ultra wide (weitwinkel) arm spreads don't seem to be necessary and then you've got shorter arms which will also be better for macro

    Food for thought :D

  6. I wholeheartedly concur with the previous posters suggesting two 12 inch arm segments.

At full extension, 2 x 12 arms makes it possible to get the strobes far enough off the optical axis of the lens to shoot startlingly clear shots even in what seem very bad viz conditions.

I also think you'll be happy with ULCS. But I would consider getting a couple of their little dumbbell arms for macro. For my rig, shooting a 105 mm lens, even 8 inch arms are still too long for macro.

  7. Thank you all,

I think I still will use the put the strobes out wide method, especially when the subject is not very close, so 2x12".

But I will get some short arms as well. For Macro of course and fisheye with close distance, for trying this keep the strobes in method.

    regards,
