  1. DS-125 & Canon A80

I have just recently started using a strobe with my consumer digicam and most of the time I love it.

However, this past weekend I ran into a problem where I was trying to photograph a winter skate. No matter how far I turned the manual controller down, the strobe overwhelmed the photo. I finally gave up and turned off the strobe, which resulted in a photo I can post-edit.

Anyone have any solutions for me with this? What was I doing wrong? What can I do to stop this problem?

Here are examples of the various photos at the various settings. The last photo is the one with the strobe off.

  2. Hi Kim,

You'll need to let us know what shutterspeed and f-stop you were using for the photos.

    Cheers

  3. It's showing as a 1/60 shutterspeed and f/2.8 in the exif. I use the camera on basically auto - I don't set the shutterspeed & f-stop manually.

  4. There's your problem. At f2.8, you can light the shot with a candle.... You need to set the camera in A or M mode and set a higher f-stop if you wish to use your strobe. You will get MUCH better results that way.

  5. Thanks James!!

I'm basically a point-and-shoot kind of girl, but I checked out the manual and guess what!!! It's not difficult to set a higher f-stop. I'll try it next weekend in Cape Breton!!

    Cheers,

  6. Glad I could help.

    Cheers
