Hello,
anyone has tested macromate lens from backscatter.com ?
Is the same than Nexus wet lens?
I have both - they are definitely not the same thing.
The Nexus wet lens is a lens with a rubber-type sleeve that slips onto the port (different sizes for different port brands). It is flexible, so easy to carry and put on and off underwater. The quality is good, and I have had no problem using it. It is also a LOT cheaper! And, it can easily be modified to fit ports other than those it is sold for ...... the lens has a groove that other "sleeves" can be fitted into.
The Macromate from Backscatter is a lens in a stiff sleeve, fairly large and bulky, that fits over the port then has screws to tighten it. One problem is how to carry it during the dive when it is not in use, and I don't see how it could be easily adapted for ports any larger than the ones it is sold for. I only used the Macromate once and had to leave it on the whole dive as I had not come up with an easy way to carry it otherwise. Then I had trouble finding my subject in the viewfinder..... the "focus depth" is so small that what you see in the viewfinder is totally out of focus, until you get right on the subject. But in the meantime you have trouble finding the subject to zero in on it. It definitely will take some practice using it. But the shots I did get were excellent quality.
Hope that helps .... feel free to contact me directly if you want more information.

Any idea if this could fit (or work with) Ikelite ports? Has anyone ever tried this. This is one clear advantage for Nexus cameras.
(like I need another accessory.....) ![]()
The lens is the same size for any port, and has a groove around the edge that the "sleeve" fits into. So what you need is a rubber cap of some type that fits snugly over your port, then cut out the center so it fits into the groove (using the hole in the original sleeve as a guide for how big the hole needs to be). We checked out the various options at the hardware store (like Home Depot) and the web and found a rubber cap that fit the port. Some port covers might work, but most are neoprene and they aren't stiff enough to hold the lens.
Hope that helps ..... If you need further information, I'm sure Woody at Nexus America will answer any questions - he is very helpful.
Thanks Linda!
I have a woody diopter too and not sure
to buy the macromate.
Is the focusing distance (w.105 lens) too close at 2:1?
It's easier to shoot than with a teleconverter 2x?
Can you post any photo with lens?
The Woody's diopter comes in three sizes.....the middle one fits Ikelite ports.....I've got one, but haven't used it yet uw
