Fiji Garden Island resort ????

Will be going to Garden Island resort in Oct , Anyone been there,??

I was just there in April for the Digital Shootout. The resort and diveshop staff are very helpful and friendly. The resort is clean and serviceable if not 5 star quality. The food is just OK and the service in the dining room is kind of strange. The waitstaff, while uniformly pleasant, were at times quite culeless.

The diving consists of 2 tank morning dives and a couple of night dives each week. There is some limited shore diving in front of the resort but most of the diving takes place on a ridgeline of reefs running perpendicular to the Somosomo Strait. The most outstanding aspect of the diving is the explosion of soft corals in brilliant reds, pinks, oranges and and pale lavendar. The reason for the profusion of soft coral is the flow of nutrients supplied by a consistent current. Most of the time the current is manageable or you can find a lee to work in but on a few occasions it made photography just about impossible. The water temp in April was in the low to mid 80s and vis was in the 80ft +/- range. Wide-angle photo ops are outstanding, macro is good but not on a par with some of the better macro destinations.
