DS-50 and Olympus 5060: Ike housing only??

  1. DS-50 and Olympus 5060: Ike housing only??

    Hi

I looked through previous posts but couldn't decide if this question had been answered directly.

I have a DS-50 and I am considering an Olympus 5060. From the Ike website it is clear that this combination works well with their housing. Question though: does it also function the same way with the PT020 housing? Does the PT020 housing even have an external sync port? Does the Ike cable fit the PT020?

On a related note...are their any major disadvantages in functionality of the PT020 housing vs the Ike housing? Both claim full access to camera functions, so is the difference primarily strength of construction, etc, or are you giving up something with the cheaper option.

Thanks in advance and forgive me if these were asked and answered somewhere already.

  2. Ike has a new housing for 5050 and 5060 to use TTL with sync cord.. the pt020 housing i think would require the Ike digital slave sensor to pickup deflected internal flash of 5060. get the ike housing...you'll have more options to outfit your rig..

  3. Yeah I have the Ike digital slave sensor already, use it with a Sony, but I want to get out of that and go to a hard connection with full TTL. I am concluding that only the Ike housing provides that option but maybe someone can definitively say yes or no. Thanks

  4. im going out on a limb but to my knowledge Ike has the only housings with additonal circuitry for Oly TTL

  5. For the PT020, I would recommend the Mike-Dive TTL cable, see: http://www.mike-dive.de/

Other options for TTL: Ike-housing (works only with Ike strobes, well you already have one...) or the FL20 Olympus land flash (not recommended)

  6. I looked at Mike-Dive's web site, but my german is no good.

If I have a PT-020 and an DS-50 - what can MIke do for me?

Can I get electricly wired TTL?

    /Anders

  7. Yes, it's hardwired + no internal flash needed. I do not use it by myself (I don't have an Oly) but other users reported it works just fine.

  8. Ike's housing for the Olympus 5050 and 5060 comes "hard-wired" with the circuitry to do TRUE TTL. All you have to do is connect your DS-50 via sync cord and you will be good to go.

Besides that, Ike's housing is great - compact, and provides two good handles for mounting strobes.
