dual storbe question

  1. dual storbe question

I just bought an Ikelite housing and ds50 substrobe with a ttl stnc cord. I probaly should have bought the DS125 and am concidering buting a second strobe namely the ds125.

Would it be feasible to use the two in conjunction with the ds125 acting off the slave? Eventually I will buy another DS125

    Is this a stupid idea?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. You can mix and match DS 50s and DS 125s with the Ikelite housing. The best way to do this is with the Ikelite 5-conductor dual sync cord #4103.5.

  3. Don't know what kind of camera you have, but I would guess that you would hook the DS-125 with sync cord to the housing. The DS-125 has 4 power settings in addtition to TTL. The DS50 doesn't have variable power, so hook it to a digital sensor and have it slave off the DS-125. Then both strobes are putting out similar light.

In my opinion the best option would be to get a dual sync cord and 2 manual controllers. Then you can independently control each strobe.

I had this setup for the wp sharks trip last july, it was a real pain as my strobe would fire everytime someone took a picture next to me. I'm much happier now with my dual sync cord

  5. Ike DS strobe use

Like Peter said, yes you can use newer Ike DS strobes in combo not only with the sync cord but also with the sensors. Goto Ike's webpage FAQs for details. Just a quick look showed this: http://www.ikelite.com/faq/faq_ttl_slave.html

But I know there is more.

DS-50 does have manual power in the sense that the EV controller adjusts output.
