Just back from a quick two day trip to Eastport, Maine. For those of you unfamiliar, Eastport is the premier critter diving site in the Western North Atlantic....kind of cold water muck diving. The vis is low, the water is cold, and the currents can be extreme......exactly my kind of place. I was only able to get in two dives because of the lack of locally available air-fills but I've put together a little gallery of images. Please be my guest and take a look.
Nicely done! I didn't realize there was that much color anywhere in the Northeast. Add an octopus and the BC divers might start to get jealous...
Thanks Tom. Eastport doesn't get a lot of attention because of it's remote location - about a 7 hour drive north of Boston - and, lets face it, the weather is pretty nasty much of the year. The tremendous tidal flow created by it's location on the Bay of Fundy fosters a world class marine environment.

I looked it up on Mapquest and thought I had the town wrong when I saw it was that far from Boston! Looks like it would be worth the trip though...

Definitly worth the trip. Two things to keep in mind if you plan a trip:
It's only possible to dive at slack tide so your dives are determined by the tide-tables. Low tide is better because the good stuff is 20ft shallower.
There are no local dive shops. There several people that have compressors in their garages but they don't have regular hours and you want to make arrangements ahead if you need fills.

I was across the bay in Deer Island, New Brunswick last weekend, too. Here's my pics from the weekend...http://www.pbase.com/kiml/092004a
I do love the nudis, but only saw one all weekend.
Kim
Hey Kim,
You have some nice shots there. Those anemones look familiar. I was diving at Deer Island Point on Sunday morning. I shot the nudies over on the Eastport side.

Were you the guy in the Subaru running for the ferry? Noticed your camera, but you were in a rush so only asked about the vehicle.
Nice to meet you online!!! Love Deer Island, planning to head back Saturday Sept 18th with a few people - it's only a 3 hour trip from home for me.
Loved your wolffish pic - nice & close.
We moved on to St. Andrews later on Sunday and dove Black Rock & Casco Bay Island on Monday. Currents were ripping, so difficult to take pics, but here are a few....
No, that wasn't me. I was driving a tan colored Chevy van. We were parked on the grass near the light, right by the path that leads down to the site.
I did Black Rock a few years ago and you could hear whales U/W and see them at the surface. They could have been very close U/W but with 10ft vis who can tell....great site though.
Larry
Oh, you were at the point & we were at Cancat Beach for the low tide dive on Sunday.
At Black Rock, We heard the whales u/w also and the folks who stayed on the boat said that whales were circling the rock while we were diving, but again with the visibility... I lost my buddy and with the short dive window it ended the dive. Sigh!!!
