  1. Opinions About Moisture Alarms

Thanks to a fellow wetpixelan, I am about to be the recipient of an Aquatica S2 housing. I will be set up for a 12-24, 60, and 105 which I intend to use on an upcoming Turks and Caicos Aggressor trip.

Having used the S2 in an Ikelite housing for 2 years, and a Nikonos V before that, I became comfortable with the ability to see the o-rings and what's going on inside the housing.

My question is; How does everyone feel about the necessity of a moisture alarm for this and other housings?

  2. Get one. A moisture alarm saved me a few times from ruining my camera in a Subal housing. They can save your trip. A little added protection can never hurt.

  3. I have Aquatica S2, get the moisture alarm but be aware that it is a visual alarm! the led though is quite visible UW. Also carry spare batteries for the thing and don't leave the battery in when in storage. Dunno but my alarm seems to use too much power when idle. It is shrink wrapped, cut through the wrap on the side to be able to remove battery and still re-use it. If you opt to order the Aquatica you can leave it as is but take extra batteries. Can give you the batt reference if you want.

  4. Always check you moisture alarm prior to closing your housing to ensure it is working. Wet you fingers and touch the contacts to see. Otherwise you could be relying upon something that is not there.

  5. Any idea whether the Aquatica moisture alarm (or another brand) will work in a Nexus D100 housing?

    Thanks

  6. Any housing, you just need a very small amount of room and set it in.

  7. Thanks for your opinions. It looks like it's unanimous and I have one ordered. I was afraid I would get conflicting replies.
