Play video locally on tv

  1. I want to watch my videos on my livingroom 4k Samsung-tv. What is the best way to do this, when you are looking for med maximum quality?

It goes without saying we want some kind of stream from our local (mac-mini) server.

Has anyone any experiens with this issue?

    Espen

  2. If you have a Mac mini server, make iTunes there aware of your content. Then get an AppleTV and use the "computers" app to play things off your Mac. That's the "Apple way" to do it.

  3. Samsung can access any DNLA server like a NAS or similar or even your mini. Create a high quality file if you can HEVC as it is smaller and then use the mini as an SMB server if the tv supports or download something like Universal Media Server or Plex

The Samsung Tv does not have airplay so that the previous poster was saying won't work without an ATV or another box

  4. Technically what I suggested doesnt have anything to do with AirPlay, but the key is that there is extra hardware. On the other hand, Im if the opinion that anyone in the Apple ecosystem (phone, iPad, computer) should grab an Apple TV too.

When Ive tried using DLNA its worked but been pretty clunky in getting things talking to each other, interfaces, etc but I gave up years ago.

  5. You don't need extra hardware I believe that is the whole point of the poster

If there are no other options you can plug a thumb drive

  6. I use Plex media server with a wired connection so there is no lag. It works great for me.

  7. You can always just plug in your laptop with a HDMI cable, it treats the TV like a projector - an extra screen you may need to click one of the function buttons if it doesn't auto setup.

  8. Thanx a lot for feedback!

I´ve already tried Apple-TV and the Plex-solution, so I guess I've been on the correct track!
