The Sony NEX-5N system that I use for underwater photography is badly in need of replacement. It is unclear how many more times I can patch my present system to continue to make it usable. I have been waiting over a year for Sony to put out a new model to replace the a6500 since I didn’t want to buy an a6500 and then have an updated version come out very quickly which is what happened when I purchased the NEX-5N. However, it is becoming clear that the a6500 is unlikely to be updated anytime soon. So, at this point I consider my options to be:
- Purchase a Sony a6500 (or maybe a6400) and be out-of-date in 9 months (or maybe a year) when Sony finally decides to stay in APS-C market.
- Purchase a camera from a different manufacturer (one which has a mid-priced housing available).
- A third possibly would be to purchase a Sony RX100-VA system. This system is lower priced and there are mid-priced housings for this camera that accept wide angle and macro wet lenses. With respect to this option I have the following question and would be interested in feedback:
- Has the senor and processor technology advanced sufficiently in the last 6 years that this point and shoot camera would give photo quality/resolution equal to or better than my present NEX-5N/18-55 mm lens?
Thanks,
